What it is
Laser hair removal is a treatment that directs targeted laser light onto the skin, where it is absorbed by the pigment in the hair to reduce regrowth over a course of sessions.
Laser hair removal works by directing laser light at the hair follicle, where the pigment in the hair absorbs the energy. This targets the follicle to reduce future growth, treated as a course rather than a single session because hair grows in cycles and the laser is most effective on active follicles.
At Shookra the treatment uses the Quanta Duetto system, which combines Alexandrite and Nd:YAG laser wavelengths. Pairing the two wavelengths lets the clinician target hair on a range of skin types, including darker and more sensitive skin, and treat areas including the face, arms, legs, back and more sensitive regions such as the underarms and bikini line.
Settings are selected for your skin and hair at consultation rather than applied to a fixed formula. Your clinician accounts for factors such as skin tone, hair colour and recent sun exposure, and adjusts the device to keep treatment both effective and comfortable.

What to expect

Your skin and hair type are assessed and the device matched to them. A patch test is carried out before a full session so your clinician can confirm the right settings and check how your skin responds.

The session
The area is cleansed and the laser applied in passes across the treatment area. You may feel a brief warmth or a light snapping sensation with each pulse; sessions are quick and most people return to their day straight afterwards.

Course & aftercare
Hair is treated as a course of sessions, spaced to follow the growth cycle. Afterwards you'll be advised to avoid sun exposure and to use broad-spectrum SPF on treated skin, with full aftercare guidance for the days that follow.
