Skin Longevity Assessment in Dubai

Most skin decisions are made by looking in the mirror. A skin longevity assessment adds measurement: imaging of what sits below the surface, blood markers that affect skin from the inside, and, where it helps, your genetic tendencies. A physician then reads them together and builds a plan around them.

  • AI skin imaging beneath the surface, done on the day
  • Skin-relevant blood markers and optional DNA Skin testing
  • Treatment chosen from what is measured

01

What Is a Skin Longevity Assessment?

A skin longevity assessment measures how your skin is ageing and what is driving it — using skin imaging, blood markers such as the fat-soluble vitamins, and optional genetic testing — so that treatment and skincare decisions are based on your skin rather than on a trend.

Skin ages from two directions. Some of it is intrinsic — set by time, genetics and hormones. Much of it is extrinsic — driven by sun, pollution, smoking, sleep and diet. The balance differs from person to person, which is why two people of the same age can have very different skin.

Over time the skin makes less collagen and elastin, its barrier holds water less well, and pigment is laid down less evenly. Ultraviolet exposure speeds up each of these, and in a climate with strong sun year-round it is usually the largest single factor. Nutrition, blood sugar and hormonal change also play a part, and those can be measured.

A skin longevity assessment brings those threads together. Imaging shows what is happening in the skin now. Blood tests and, if you choose, genetic testing show some of the reasons why. The result is a plan that fits your skin, rather than a list of treatments chosen in advance.

02

Signs of Skin Ageing: Who Should Get Assessed

This assessment suits anyone who wants to understand how their skin is ageing before choosing treatments, anyone who has tried products or procedures without the result they hoped for, and anyone who wants a measured baseline to track over the years.

It is particularly relevant around perimenopause and menopause, when falling oestrogen affects skin thickness and hydration; after significant weight change; for people with a restricted diet; and for anyone who has spent many years in strong sun.

A mole or patch that is new, changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding or not healing needs prompt review by a dermatologist rather than a skin longevity assessment — tell us when you get in touch and we will direct you accordingly.

Skin Health Markers Explained

A full skin longevity assessment can look at the markers below. Your physician confirms which are run for you at the consultation, based on your skin, goals and history.

Vitamin A
Involved in how skin cells renew and mature. Both low and high levels matter, which is why it is measured rather than assumed.
Vitamin D
Made in the skin in sunlight, yet commonly low in people who spend most of the day indoors or protect their skin carefully.
Vitamin E
A fat-soluble antioxidant found in the skin’s outer layers.
Vitamin K
Involved in blood clotting and in proteins found in skin and blood vessels; read as part of the fat-soluble group.
Ferritin and zinc
Iron stores and zinc are both involved in skin and hair repair; low levels are common and often read together with hair change.
HbA1c
Long-term blood sugar. Persistently raised glucose is linked with changes in collagen, so it is read as part of the wider picture.
Thyroid function
An underactive thyroid can show up as dry skin and hair thinning, so it is worth excluding when those appear together.
Sex hormones
Oestrogen and related hormones affect skin thickness, hydration and oil production; read in context with age and cycle.

AI Skin Analysis: Measuring Skin Ageing Below the Surface

AI skin analysis uses standardised imaging under different light settings to map pigmentation, texture, redness and pores, including some changes that are not yet visible in a mirror. Because the imaging is standardised, the same analysis can be repeated later and compared like for like.

That repeatability is the point. It turns “I think my skin looks better” into a comparison your physician can show you, and it helps decide which treatments are worth continuing and which are not.

Skin imaging is a measurement tool, not a diagnosis. Anything that looks medically significant is referred for dermatology review.

06

Skin Health From the Inside: Vitamins, Blood Sugar and Hormones

Skin is built and repaired from what the body supplies. The fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K each have a role in cell renewal, barrier function or repair, and because they are stored in the body they can be too low or, with supplements, too high. Iron and zinc matter for repair and for hair.

Blood sugar is less obvious but relevant. When glucose runs high for long periods, sugars bind to proteins such as collagen in a process called glycation, which is thought to contribute to stiffer, less resilient skin. Hormonal change around menopause is another inside factor, affecting skin thickness and moisture.

None of this replaces sun protection and good skincare. It adds the part of the picture that a mirror cannot show. If metabolic results raise wider questions, our metabolic health assessment looks at them in full.

07

DNA Skin Testing: What Your Genes Can and Cannot Tell You

A DNA skin test looks at gene variants associated with collagen breakdown, antioxidant defence, pigmentation, sensitivity and response to sun. It describes tendencies, not certainties: a variant can make something more likely without making it inevitable, and environment usually has the larger effect.

Genetic results do not change over time, so the test is done once. Its value is in prioritising: where sun protection matters most for you, which concerns to watch, and which parts of a plan deserve the most attention.

For genetic testing beyond the skin, see our genetic testing page.

08

Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Skin Ageing

Both kinds happen to everyone, in different proportions. This is a general guide to what drives each and what can be measured.

 Intrinsic ageingExtrinsic ageing
Driven byTime, genetics, hormonesSun, pollution, smoking, sleep, diet
Typical signsThinner skin, fine lines, drynessPigmentation, rough texture, deeper lines
Where it showsAcross the whole bodyMostly on exposed skin — face, neck, hands
What can be measuredHormones, DNA Skin tendenciesImaging of pigment, texture and redness
Can it be influencedPartlySubstantially, starting with sun protection
09

After Your Results

At the results review your physician goes through the imaging and each marker, explains what they mean in plain language, and sets out a plan. That usually covers daily skincare and sun protection first, then any nutritional correction the blood results support, and then in-clinic treatments where they fit.

Where a plan includes treatments, they are chosen for what was measured — for example, texture, pigmentation or loss of firmness — and reviewed against repeat imaging over time. Any skin condition that needs medical care is referred to our dermatology team.

A Note From Your Physician

On skin longevity

I would rather plan skin treatment from measurement than from a photograph on a phone. Imaging shows me what is happening below the surface, and blood results sometimes explain why a routine has not worked. It means we choose fewer treatments, for better reasons, and can see what has actually changed.

Skin Longevity Questions

01What is skin longevity?
Skin longevity means looking after skin with its long-term health in mind — its barrier, collagen, pigment and repair — rather than only treating what is visible today. In practice it starts with measuring how your skin is ageing and why.
02What does an AI skin analysis show?
It maps pigmentation, texture, pores and redness using standardised imaging, including some changes that are not yet obvious to the eye. Because it is standardised, it can be repeated later to compare like for like. It is a measurement tool, not a diagnosis.
03Can a blood test tell me anything about my skin?
It can show factors that affect skin from the inside, such as the fat-soluble vitamins, iron, zinc, blood sugar, thyroid function and hormones. It does not grade your skin, but it can explain why skin is dry, slow to repair or not responding as expected.
04Is a DNA skin test worth it?
It is optional. It describes genetic tendencies in areas such as collagen breakdown, pigmentation and sun response, which can help prioritise a plan. It does not predict exactly how your skin will age, and environment usually has the larger effect.
05Do I need to fast for the skin blood tests?
Usually not for skin-related vitamins and hormones, but fasting may be needed if glucose or insulin are included at the same draw. Tell us about any supplements, as some can affect results. We confirm the preparation when your appointment is booked.
06How long do the results take?
Skin imaging results are available on the day. Blood results usually take a few working days, and genetic results take longer. We book your results review once everything is in.
07Which treatments might the plan include?
That depends on what is found. Plans usually start with skincare and sun protection, and may then include in-clinic options such as skin boosters, polynucleotides or laser treatment where they suit the findings. Your physician explains the reasoning for each.
08How is this different from a facial or a dermatology appointment?
A facial treats the skin on the day. A dermatology appointment diagnoses and treats skin conditions. A skin longevity assessment measures how your skin is ageing and why, and uses that to plan care over time.
09How much does a skin longevity assessment cost in Dubai?
At Shookra, current prices for skin imaging and panels are listed on our Diagnostics & Screening page. The consultation decides what you actually need, and the team will confirm the total on WhatsApp before anything is booked.
