Endovenous & Surgical Vein Treatment in Dubai
Where varicose veins are caused by valves failing in the deeper veins, treating the surface alone does not address the cause. This page covers the interventional options a specialist may discuss with you at consultation, and what each involves.

What Is Endovenous & Surgical Vein Treatment?
Endovenous treatment closes a faulty vein from the inside using heat delivered through a fine catheter — laser or radiofrequency. Surgical options remove or tie off the affected vein instead. Which, if any, is appropriate is decided after assessment.
Endovenous ablation passes a fine catheter into the affected vein and uses heat — laser or radiofrequency energy — to close it from the inside, so blood reroutes through healthier veins.
Phlebectomy removes surface varicose veins through very small incisions. Ligation and stripping ties off and removes a vein through slightly larger ones, and is now used more selectively than it once was.
At Shookra this is a consultation-led pathway. A specialist assesses your veins, usually with ultrasound, and sets out which options are appropriate for you, what each involves, and how and where the procedure itself would be carried out.

Who Is Endovenous & Surgical Vein Treatment For?
These options are generally raised where an assessment finds valve failure in the deeper veins driving the problem, or where symptoms — aching, heaviness, swelling, skin changes — go beyond appearance.
Which option suits you depends on which vein is affected, its size and course, your symptoms and your general health. For some people the right answer is conservative management or surface treatment instead, and we will say so.
- Varicose veins with underlying valve failure
- Aching, heaviness or swelling in the legs
- Veins that have not responded to conservative measures
- Skin changes around the ankle
Who it’s not for
A few situations mean it’s better to wait, or to choose a different treatment:
- Pregnancy
- Current blood clot (DVT), or some clotting disorders
- Significant arterial disease affecting the leg
- Some general health conditions or medicines, which the specialist reviews at consultation
This isn’t exhaustive, and none of it rules you out on its own — your clinician confirms suitability at consultation.
What to Expect from Endovenous & Surgical Vein Treatment
- 01
Assessment, usually with ultrasound
A specialist examines your legs and maps the veins with ultrasound to establish which are affected and why.
- 02
Your options, explained
You leave understanding which routes are open to you — interventional and conservative — what each involves, and what each cannot do.
- 03
Planning the route
If you choose to proceed, the plan — what the procedure involves, the recovery, the risks, and how and where it would be carried out — is set out before any decision is made.
Meet Your Practitioner
On Endovenous & Surgical Vein Treatment
Veins are one of the areas where people are sold a procedure before anyone has established what is actually failing. An ultrasound answers that in half an hour. I would rather spend that time first and tell you honestly that you do not need an intervention than book you for one.
