Medical Weight Loss in Dubai

A physician-led approach to weight management, delivered under DHA-licensed medical supervision at our Dubai clinic. Every programme starts with a medical assessment to confirm whether treatment is appropriate for you; it is not available without that eligibility review. Where it is suitable, your physician sets out a supervised plan and reviews your progress over time.

What it is

Medical weight loss is a physician-supervised programme that begins with a medical assessment, and where clinically appropriate provides a prescribed, monitored plan alongside lifestyle guidance, under DHA-licensed medical supervision.

Medical weight loss at Shookra is a supervised clinical programme rather than an over-the-counter product or a one-off treatment. It combines a physician assessment, a prescribed plan where that is clinically appropriate, and ongoing monitoring — with lifestyle and nutritional guidance running alongside.

Assessment comes first

The starting point is always a medical consultation. Your physician reviews your history, current medications, relevant measurements and any underlying conditions to determine whether a medically supervised weight-management plan is suitable for you. Treatment is only considered after that review, and any prescription is decided by your physician on a case-by-case basis.

A supervised plan, not a quick fix

Where a plan is appropriate, it is supervised throughout: your physician explains what is involved, how it is followed, and what to watch for, and schedules follow-up reviews to check tolerance and adjust the plan as needed. The aim is a controlled, monitored approach to weight management.

How GLP-1 class therapies fit

Where a prescribed plan is appropriate, it commonly draws on the GLP-1 class of therapies. GLP-1 is a naturally occurring gut hormone that helps regulate appetite, fullness and blood sugar; GLP-1 class medicines are based on it and, in eligible patients, support appetite regulation as one part of a wider plan. They are prescription medicines with genuine considerations — prescribed, dosed and monitored by a doctor, not bought off a shelf — and whether they are right for you depends on your health, not a trend.

What we don’t promise

This is a medical programme carried out by trained clinical staff. We do not make outcome promises; what your physician can discuss with you is whether you are a suitable candidate and what a supervised plan would involve.

Who it's for

Medical weight loss is for adults who want to address their weight under proper medical supervision rather than on their own, and who are willing to begin with a full clinical assessment. Suitability is a medical decision — not everyone who asks for a programme will be a candidate, and your physician confirms eligibility before anything is offered.

Whether a programme is appropriate depends on your individual medical picture: your history, current medications, any underlying conditions and relevant clinical measurements all factor into the decision. Your physician will be candid if a medically supervised weight-management plan is not the right choice for you, and may suggest a different path instead.

  • Persistent low energy and fatigue
  • Metabolic and detox support
  • Circulation and overall wellbeing
  • Body firmness alongside weight change

Who it’s not for

A few situations mean it’s better to wait, or to choose a different treatment:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Certain medical history, including some digestive, thyroid or pancreatic conditions such as a history of pancreatitis.
  • A current or past eating disorder.
  • Not suitable without a medical eligibility assessment confirming it is appropriate for you.

This isn’t exhaustive, and none of it rules you out on its own — your clinician confirms suitability at consultation.

What to expect

  1. 01

    Medical assessment & eligibility

Your physician reviews your medical history, current medications, relevant measurements and goals, and any underlying conditions, to determine whether a supervised weight-management plan is appropriate for you. Nothing is prescribed until eligibility is confirmed.

  2. 02

    Your supervised plan

If you are a suitable candidate, your physician sets out a plan tailored to you, explains exactly what it involves and how it is followed, and discusses lifestyle and nutritional support to run alongside it. You will be told what to expect and what to report.

  3. 03

    Monitoring & follow-up

Your physician schedules follow-up reviews to check how you are tolerating the plan, address any questions or side effects, and adjust the approach where needed. The programme is supervised for its duration rather than handed over and left.

Physician note

On Medical Weight Loss

I treat weight as a medical matter, which means the assessment comes first and the answer is sometimes that a programme is not right for you. I will not put anyone on a supervised plan without reviewing their history and medications, and I am careful not to promise a number on the scale. When a plan is appropriate, my priority is that it is monitored, well tolerated and supported by realistic lifestyle change — not rushed, and not framed as a shortcut.

Questions

01Who is medical weight loss suitable for, and is it right for me?
It is for adults who want to manage their weight under medical supervision and are willing to start with a full clinical assessment. Suitability is a medical decision based on your history, medications, any underlying conditions and relevant measurements — so the honest answer to whether it is right for you comes from your physician after that review, not before it.
02What happens at the first appointment?
The first appointment is a medical assessment. Your physician reviews your history, current medications, relevant measurements and goals to decide whether a supervised weight-management plan is appropriate. Nothing is prescribed until that eligibility review is complete.
03Will I be prescribed something at my first visit?
Not automatically. Any prescription is a clinical decision made by your physician on a case-by-case basis, and only where it is medically appropriate after your assessment. Some people will be candidates for a supervised plan and some will not.
04How do GLP-1 class therapies work?
They are based on GLP-1, a naturally occurring gut hormone that helps regulate appetite, fullness and blood sugar. Used under medical supervision in eligible patients, they support appetite regulation as one part of a wider plan. They are prescription medicines with real considerations, prescribed and monitored by a doctor.
05What medication is used in the programme?
Where it is clinically appropriate, we prescribe from the GLP-1 class of therapies. The specific medicine, dose and schedule are decided by your physician for you individually and discussed in your consultation — it is not chosen from a menu, and we do not advertise prescription brand names.
06Is the programme monitored?
Yes. A supervised plan is followed with scheduled review appointments so your physician can check how you are tolerating it, discuss any side effects and adjust the approach as needed. It is supervised throughout rather than handed over after the first visit.
07Who is not suitable for medical weight loss?
Some people are not suitable — for example during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain medical, digestive, thyroid or pancreatic history, or with a history of an eating disorder, among others. It is also not available without a medical eligibility assessment. Your physician reviews your individual situation and confirms whether it is safe to proceed.
08What does medical weight loss cost at Shookra?
Cost depends on your assessment and the plan your physician recommends, so it is discussed individually rather than listed. Message us on WhatsApp and the team will help you arrange a consultation and share the relevant details.
