What it is
Exosomes are nano-sized particles released by cells that carry growth factors, proteins and RNA — regenerative signals applied to skin or scalp, often after micro-channelling treatments such as microneedling, peels or laser.
These vesicles carry growth factors, proteins and genetic material such as RNA — the signals that tell nearby cells to repair, regenerate and reduce inflammation. The exosomes used in aesthetic care are most often derived from mesenchymal stem cells.
Rather than transplanting living cells, exosome therapy uses these messengers on their own. Applied to the skin or scalp, they bind to nearby cells and prompt the body’s own repair response — supporting collagen and elastin production, improving texture and tone, and helping skin recover after treatments such as microneedling, peels or laser.
Because it works through signalling rather than added volume, exosome therapy is used to improve skin quality, not to fill or reshape. At Shookra each plan is tailored at consultation and carried out under doctor-led clinical protocols. Exosome therapy is an emerging area of regenerative aesthetics; your clinician will explain the current evidence and what it can and cannot do for your concern before you proceed.

Who it's for
Exosome therapy may suit a range of skin and recovery concerns — dull or uneven tone and texture, fine lines and early loss of firmness, acne scars and pigmentation, or sensitive skin — and is often used to support recovery after peels, laser or microneedling.
It is generally not recommended while breastfeeding, over active infections or inflamed skin conditions, or immediately after another cosmetic procedure — your clinician confirms suitability and timing at consultation.
- Dull or uneven skin
- Texture and acne scars
- Uneven tone and pigmentation
- Fine lines and early firmness loss
- Sensitive or inflamed skin
- Post-procedure recovery
- Hair thinning
Who it’s not for
A few situations mean it’s better to wait, or to choose a different treatment:
- Active skin infection or inflamed skin condition in the treatment area
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active cancer or significant immunosuppression
- Known hypersensitivity to the product or its components
This isn’t exhaustive, and none of it rules you out on its own — your clinician confirms suitability at consultation.
What to expect
- 01
Consultation & plan
Your clinician reviews your skin, scalp or recovery concern and agrees a personalised plan — including the treatment area and how many sessions are likely.
- 02
Treatment
Skin is cleansed and a numbing cream may be applied. Exosomes are delivered to the treatment area; the session itself is usually quick.
- 03
Recovery & results
Expect little to no downtime. Mild redness or swelling can occur briefly, and the skin renews gradually over the following weeks.
Physician note
On Exosomes
I use exosomes most often to support recovery and skin quality alongside other treatments rather than as a standalone fix. It is a developing field, so I set expectations carefully: I want patients to understand what the evidence supports today, and we plan a sensible course of sessions rather than a single visit. Suitability and timing matter — I will confirm both before we begin.
