Advanced Blood Test in Dubai

A routine blood test answers a narrow question: is anything clearly out of range today. An advanced panel asks a broader one — where each system sits, how the results relate to each other, and what is worth watching. Our physicians choose the panel with you, then take you through every result in plain language.

  • Three tiers, from an essential annual panel to a full biomarker screen
  • Metabolic, cardiovascular, hormonal and nutritional markers read together
  • Every result explained by a physician at a review appointment

01

What Is an Advanced Blood Panel?

An advanced blood panel is a wider blood test than a routine check-up — covering metabolic, cardiovascular, hormonal, thyroid, inflammatory and nutritional markers — read together by a physician so that patterns across systems are visible, not just single results.

Most annual check-ups measure a small, standard set of markers: a blood count, basic liver and kidney function, cholesterol and a glucose reading. That set is a sensible floor. It is designed to find clear abnormalities, and it does that well.

What it is not designed to do is show early drift. Insulin can rise for years before fasting glucose moves. Cholesterol can look acceptable while the number of particles carrying it is high. Iron stores, vitamin D and B12 can sit low enough to affect energy without appearing on a basic panel at all. An advanced panel adds the markers that describe those earlier stages.

The value is in reading the results together. A single marker out of range is a data point; several markers moving in the same direction is a pattern, and patterns are what a physician can act on. That is why every panel here is chosen at a consultation and reviewed at a second one, rather than posted to you as a list of numbers.

02

Who Should Get a Full Blood Test

This suits adults who want to know where they stand across the major systems, people whose last routine test came back “normal” while they still feel below par, and anyone with a family history they would rather understand than worry about.

It is also useful as a starting point before changing diet, training or supplements, so that any change can be measured rather than assumed, and for people managing a known condition who want a wider view alongside their specialist care.

A blood panel is a planned screen, not an emergency test. Chest pain, breathlessness, sudden weakness, unexplained bleeding or rapid weight loss need prompt medical care — tell us when you get in touch and we will direct you accordingly.

    Includes: Homocysteine · D-dimer · hs-CRP · Lipid profile

  • Metabolic

    Diabetes Risk Assessment

Insulin resistance markers that move years before glucose does.

Why it’s here Added in the Advanced tier when weight, family history or glucose suggest insulin resistance is worth measuring.

    Includes: HOMA index · Adiponectin · HbA1c

  • Metabolic

    Thyroid Comprehensive Profile

Full thyroid function, including the markers a standard TSH-only check misses.

Why it’s here Added in the Advanced tier when symptoms point towards the thyroid and TSH alone would not answer the question.

Blood Test Markers Explained

A full assessment can look at the markers below. Your physician confirms which are run for you at the consultation, based on your history, symptoms and the tier you choose.

Complete blood count
Red cells, white cells and platelets — a first read on anaemia, infection and general blood health.
Liver and kidney function
Enzymes, proteins and filtration markers that show how the two main clearing organs are working.
Lipid profile
Total, LDL and HDL cholesterol and triglycerides — the standard cardiovascular baseline.
HbA1c
Average blood sugar over roughly three months, rather than a single moment.
Fasting insulin
How hard the body is working to keep glucose in range — read alongside HbA1c.
hs-CRP
A sensitive marker of low-grade inflammation, interpreted in context rather than alone.
Thyroid function
TSH at minimum; free hormones and antibodies when a fuller thyroid read is needed.
Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin
Nutrient and iron stores that are commonly low and often sit behind low energy.

Essential, Advanced and Comprehensive: Three Tiers of Blood Test

Not everyone needs the widest panel, and a test is only useful if it answers a question you actually have. We describe the options as three tiers, and your physician recommends one at the consultation.

Essential is the Bio Full Body Health Checkup, in versions for men and women: the standard annual panel, reviewed by a physician rather than returned as a printout. Advanced starts from the Anti-Aging Profile, which spans metabolic, hormonal, thyroid and nutritional markers, and adds system panels chosen for you — for example the Cardiac Risk Profile, the Diabetes Risk Assessment or the Thyroid Comprehensive Profile.

Comprehensive is the Longevity & Wellness Screening Package: a physician consultation, a wide biomarker panel, a biological age estimate, in-clinic diagnostics on the day and a results review. It is described in full on our Diagnostics & Screening page.

06

Normal Range vs What Your Results Mean for You

Every lab result comes with a reference range, and it is easy to read “in range” as “fine”. A reference range describes where most of a tested population falls. It is a useful boundary, but it is not a personal target.

Two results can both be in range and still tell different stories: a ferritin at the bottom of the range in someone who is exhausted, or a fasting insulin near the top in someone whose weight has crept up. Physicians read results against your symptoms, your history and your previous results, which is why the trend over time often says more than any single reading.

This is also why results are reviewed in an appointment rather than sent by email. The numbers are yours to keep; the interpretation is what makes them useful.

07

How Often Should You Get a Full Blood Test?

For most healthy adults, a full panel once a year is a reasonable rhythm, with the first test serving as a baseline. When a result is being actively worked on — a low vitamin D, a rising HbA1c — a targeted re-test after a few months shows whether the change is working. Your physician sets the interval based on what was found.

Consistency matters as much as frequency. Testing at a similar time of day, under similar conditions (fasted or not, before or after training) makes each result comparable with the last.

08

Routine Blood Test vs Advanced Blood Panel

Both have a place. This is a general guide to the difference; your physician decides what is right for you.

MetabolicGlucose, sometimes HbA1cHbA1c with fasting insulin

09

After Your Blood Test Results

At the results review your physician goes through each system, explains what the markers mean together, and sets out a next step for anything that needs one. For many people that is reassurance and a date to re-test. For others it is a targeted follow-up, a referral to a specialist, or a closer look at one area.

Where results point to nutrient gaps, metabolic drift or hormonal change, the plan can include nutrition, training and sleep changes, supplementation and further assessment — always based on what was measured, and re-tested so change is tracked rather than assumed.

What to Expect

  1. 01

    Consultation

A physician takes your history, medication, family history and goals, and recommends a tier and any added panels.

  2. 02

    Blood draw

One blood draw in clinic. You will be told in advance whether to fast and whether to pause any supplements.

  3. 03

    Results review

A second appointment to go through every system, what the markers mean together and what matters most.

  4. 04

    Plan and follow-up

Clear next steps and a re-test interval, so the next panel can be compared with this one.

A Note From Your Physician

On advanced blood panel

I rarely learn much from one result on its own. What helps is seeing the whole set together — how insulin sits beside lipids, how iron sits beside thyroid — and then comparing it with the next test a year later. The first panel is a baseline; its real value shows up in the second.

Blood Test Questions

01What does a full blood test check?
A full blood test usually covers a blood count, liver and kidney function, cholesterol and a glucose marker. An advanced panel adds markers such as fasting insulin, inflammation, thyroid function, vitamin D, B12 and iron stores. Your physician confirms the exact panel at consultation.
02What is the difference between a routine and an advanced blood test?
A routine test looks for clear abnormalities in a small set of markers. An advanced panel covers more systems and adds markers that describe earlier change, such as insulin alongside glucose, and reads them together rather than one at a time.
03Do I need to fast before an advanced blood test?
Often, yes — usually for around 8 to 12 hours, with water allowed — because glucose, insulin and triglycerides are affected by a recent meal. Some supplements, such as biotin, can interfere with certain results. The team will tell you exactly how to prepare when you book.
04Which tier do I need?
That is decided at the consultation, based on your history, symptoms and what you want to know. Many people start with Essential or Advanced; the Comprehensive package suits those who want the widest baseline in one programme.
05How long do blood test results take?
Most results come back within a few working days; some specialised markers take longer. We book your results review once everything is in, so you go through them with a physician rather than reading numbers alone.
06How often should I have a full blood test?
For most healthy adults, once a year is a reasonable rhythm. If a result is being worked on, your physician may suggest a targeted re-test after a few months to see whether the change is working.
07Can a blood test show my biological age?
Biological age testing is a separate assessment, covered on our Diagnostics & Screening page. It is included in the Comprehensive tier, and can also be booked on its own.
08Will you share results with my own doctor?
Yes, if you ask us to. You receive your results and the physician’s summary, and we can send them to your GP or specialist with your consent.
09How much does an advanced blood test cost in Dubai?
At Shookra, current panel prices are listed on our Diagnostics & Screening page. The consultation decides which panels you actually need, and the team will confirm the total on WhatsApp before anything is booked.
