Varicose Veins Treatment in Dubai
Varicose veins are common, and they range from a purely cosmetic concern to a genuine circulation problem. Which one you have is not something you can tell by looking, which is why an assessment — often including an ultrasound — comes before any discussion of treatment.

What it is
Varicose Veins, explained.
Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins — usually in the legs — that develop when the one-way valves inside a vein stop closing properly, so blood pools instead of returning efficiently to the heart.
Leg veins carry blood upward against gravity, helped by one-way valves and by the calf muscles squeezing as you walk. When those valves stop closing properly, blood flows backward and pools, and the vein stretches and becomes visible.
Family history is the strongest single factor. Age, pregnancy, prolonged standing, and body weight all contribute. It is not caused by crossing your legs, and it is not a sign that you have neglected something.
Some varicose veins cause no symptoms at all. Others bring aching, heaviness, swelling by evening, cramping or itching, and in longer-standing cases changes in the skin around the ankle. That distinction shapes what is worth doing.
Common signs
What people usually notice.
- Bulging, rope-like veins visible under the skin
- Aching or heaviness in the legs, worse by evening
- Swelling around the ankles after standing
- Cramping or restlessness in the legs at night
- Itching over or around the vein
- Skin discolouration or hardening near the ankle
Signs overlap between conditions, and this list is not a diagnosis. What you have is established by examination, not by a checklist.
Assessment
How a specialist works out what is going on.
- 01
History
What you notice and when, how it affects your day, family history, and any previous clot or vein treatment.
- 02
Examination
Your legs are examined standing, since veins fill under gravity, along with the skin around the ankle.
- 03
Duplex ultrasound
Where indicated, ultrasound maps which veins are affected and whether the valves in the deeper veins are working. This is what separates a surface problem from an underlying one.
- 04
The plan
What the specialist thinks is happening, which options are reasonable, and what is worth doing first — including doing nothing.
What may be considered
Options a specialist may discuss with you.
Which of these is appropriate — if any — depends entirely on what the assessment finds. They are described here so you know what the conversation may cover, not as a menu to choose from.
- SclerotherapyA solution injected into smaller varicose veins so the vessel closes. Performed in-clinic where an assessment finds it appropriate.
- Endovenous & Surgical TreatmentWhere valve failure in the deeper veins is driving the problem, your specialist sets out the interventional options and what each involves.
- Compression & conservative measuresCompression, movement and elevation are discussed for most people, and for some are the appropriate route on their own.
Seek urgent care
Sudden leg swelling or pain needs immediate assessment, not an appointment.
Go to an emergency department or call for urgent medical help if you develop sudden swelling in one leg, new pain or tenderness in the calf, skin that is warm, red or discoloured, or a hard, painful vein — and especially if you also have chest pain, breathlessness or you cough blood. These can indicate a clot in a deep vein or in the lungs, which is a medical emergency. Do not wait for a routine consultation with us.
When to be seen
Don’t wait this one out.
Outside an emergency, book an assessment if the veins ache or feel heavy, if your ankles swell by the end of the day, if the skin around the ankle is changing colour or texture, or if a vein has bled. Skin changes in particular are worth having looked at sooner rather than later.
