What it is
A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing treatment that applies a controlled exfoliating acid solution to the skin to lift away surface cells and prompt fresher cells beneath. Depths range from superficial to medium.
It is a controlled form of skin resurfacing used for concerns such as acne marks, discolouration, fine lines and uneven texture, with the acid solution selected to suit the skin in front of the clinician.
Peels are defined by their depth. Superficial peels work on the outermost layer to refresh tone and refine mild texture concerns. Medium peels reach a little deeper to address pigmentation, sun-related discolouration and acne scarring. The acid type, strength and contact time are all selected for your skin type and concern, rather than applied to a fixed formula.

Who it’s not for
A few situations mean it’s better to wait, or to choose a different treatment:
- An active cold sore, broken skin or skin infection in the treatment area
- Recent isotretinoin use
- Recent significant sun exposure or sunburn on the treatment area
- Pregnancy, particularly for stronger or deeper peels

What to expect

Consult & prep
Your skin is assessed and the right peel and depth selected. The skin is then cleansed and degreased so the solution can work evenly across the treatment area.

Apply & monitor
The acid solution is applied section by section. You may feel light tingling, warmth or tightening — your clinician watches how the skin responds and adjusts timing to keep it controlled.

Neutralise & protect
The peel is neutralised or rinsed, then soothing products and a broad-spectrum SPF are applied. You'll receive aftercare guidance to support recovery in the days that follow.

The skill in peeling is matching depth to the skin in front of you, not chasing the strongest formula. For most patients I start conservatively and build a short course of superficial or medium peels, reviewing the skin between sessions. In our climate, consistent sun protection afterwards matters as much as the peel itself — particularly for deeper skin tones, where careful selection protects against unwanted pigmentation.
