Laser Tattoo Removal in Dubai
A doctor-led laser treatment that targets tattoo ink beneath the skin, breaking it into smaller fragments the body can carry away over time. What it is
Laser tattoo removal is a treatment that uses rapid pulses of laser light to break tattoo ink into smaller particles, which the body then gradually clears over a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart.
Laser tattoo removal uses short, high-energy pulses of laser light aimed at the ink sitting in the skin. Q-switched and picosecond lasers deliver these pulses in fractions of a second, which fragments the pigment into much smaller particles than the original ink deposit.
Once the ink is fragmented, the body’s own processes gradually clear the smaller particles in the weeks between sessions. Because this clearance is gradual, removal is carried out over a course of several sessions spaced apart rather than in a single visit, with the skin allowed to settle between treatments.
How a tattoo responds depends on factors such as ink colour and depth, the age and size of the tattoo, its location, and your skin. Your clinician selects laser settings to suit these factors and reviews progress between sessions, adjusting the plan as the tattoo fades. Results vary from person to person and complete removal cannot be guaranteed.
At Shookra the treatment is carried out within doctor-led clinical protocols, with your skin assessed and a patch test performed before a course begins — particularly important for deeper skin tones, where laser settings are chosen carefully to protect surrounding skin.

Who it's for
Laser tattoo removal is for people who want to fade or remove an unwanted tattoo, whether to clear it fully over time or to lighten it ahead of a cover-up. It suits both older, settled tattoos and more recent ones, though response varies with ink colour, depth and your skin. Because each tattoo behaves differently, your clinician assesses the tattoo and your skin at consultation, confirms suitability with a patch test, and sets realistic expectations for how it may respond — reviewing any recent sun exposure, medications and skin sensitivity first.
- Unwanted or faded ink and pigment
- Uneven texture from older tattoos
- Sensitive or reactive skin
- Skin recovery between sessions
Who it’s not for
A few situations mean it’s better to wait, or to choose a different treatment:
- Recent sun exposure, a tan or sunburn over the treatment area
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- An active infection, broken skin or rash over the area to be treated
- Use of photosensitising medication, or certain skin types where the physician assesses suitability case by case
This isn’t exhaustive, and none of it rules you out on its own — your clinician confirms suitability at consultation.
What to expect
- 01
Assessment & patch test
Your clinician examines the tattoo and your skin, reviews your history, recent sun exposure and any medications, and carries out a patch test. This helps confirm suitability and guides the laser settings before a course begins.
- 02
The session
The laser is passed over the tattoo in rapid pulses. Many people describe a sharp, snapping sensation, and cooling or numbing may be used for comfort. Sessions are usually short, with the time depending on the size of the tattoo, and you wear protective eyewear throughout.
- 03
Aftercare & sun protection
The area is soothed and dressed, and you are given aftercare guidance. Keep the skin clean, avoid picking, and use strict broad-spectrum SPF and sun avoidance while it heals. The next session is spaced several weeks later to let the skin recover and the ink clear.
Physician note
On Laser Tattoo Removal
The honest part of tattoo removal is managing expectations. Tattoos fade gradually over a course of sessions, and how completely depends on the ink, the depth and the skin in front of me — so I assess and patch test before committing to a plan, and I am candid about what is realistic. In our climate, strict sun protection between sessions matters as much as the laser work itself, and I take particular care with settings on deeper skin tones to protect the surrounding skin.
