Semi-Permanent Makeup in Dubai

Semi-permanent makeup is a cosmetic tattooing service that places small amounts of pigment into the upper skin to shape and define the brows, add colour to the lips, or line the eyes. What it is

Semi-permanent makeup (SPMU) is a cosmetic technique that deposits pigment into the upper layers of the skin to define the brows, lips or eyes. The pigment fades gradually over time rather than staying fixed.

SPMU covers three core areas. Brow work redefines shape and fills sparse areas using fine strokes or a soft shaded finish. Lip blush adds a wash of colour and definition to the lip line and body. Eyeliner places a fine line along the lash margin to define the eyes. In every case the pigment sits in the upper layers of the skin, which is why the result is described as semi-permanent rather than permanent.

Before any pigment is placed, your shape and shade are designed with you. Brow shape is mapped to your features and drawn on for approval; lip and liner shades are chosen to suit your colouring. Nothing is started until you are happy with the design, so the finish reflects your natural features rather than a fixed template.

Because the pigment is held in the upper skin, it softens and fades gradually over time, and how long it lasts varies between individuals depending on skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure and the area treated. A top-up appointment is usually used to refine the result after the skin has healed, and periodic refreshes maintain it thereafter.

Who it's for

Semi-permanent makeup suits people who want their brows, lips or eyes to look defined day to day without applying makeup each morning. It is often considered by those with sparse or uneven brows, pale or undefined lips, or anyone who finds a daily makeup routine difficult to maintain — for example because of busy schedules, active lifestyles or unsteady hands.

It is a cosmetic procedure, and a consultation comes first. Your practitioner reviews the area, your skin and your goals, discusses what a natural-looking result can and cannot achieve, and confirms whether the treatment is suitable for you before anything is booked.

  • Sparse or uneven brow definition
  • Pale or undefined lip colour
  • A defined, low-maintenance everyday look
  • Sensitive or reactive skin to assess first

Who it’s not for

A few situations mean it’s better to wait, or to choose a different treatment:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • An active infection, breakout or skin condition in or near the treatment area.
  • A known allergy to cosmetic pigments, numbing products or related ingredients.
  • A tendency to keloid or raised scarring, or certain medical conditions your practitioner will review beforehand.

This isn’t exhaustive, and none of it rules you out on its own — your clinician confirms suitability at consultation.

What to expect

  1. 01

    Consult & design

Your practitioner reviews the area, your skin and your goals, then maps the shape and chooses a shade with you. For brows the shape is drawn on for approval; nothing is started until you are happy with the design and suitability is confirmed.

  2. 02

    The application

A topical numbing product is applied for comfort, then pigment is placed into the upper skin along the agreed design using fine, controlled passes. Most people feel light scratching or pressure rather than sharp pain. The session usually takes one to two hours depending on the area.

  3. 03

    Healing & top-up

The colour looks darker at first and softens as the skin heals over the following days. You are given aftercare guidance to follow during this time. A top-up appointment after healing is used to refine the shape and even out the colour.

Physician note

On Semi-Permanent Makeup

The most important part of semi-permanent makeup is the design, not the needle. I encourage patients to err on the side of natural and conservative — a soft, well-mapped shape ages far better than a heavy one, and you can always build colour at the top-up. We work within clinical hygiene protocols, assess the skin and any contraindications first, and set honest expectations: this is a cosmetic enhancement that fades over time and needs maintenance, not a one-off permanent fix.

Questions

01What areas can semi-permanent makeup treat?
The three core areas are the brows (shape and definition, in fine strokes or a soft shaded finish), the lips (a lip blush that adds colour and definition), and the eyes (a fine eyeliner along the lash margin). Your practitioner advises which suits your features at consultation.
02Does it hurt?
A topical numbing product is applied beforehand to keep you comfortable. Most people describe the sensation as light scratching or pressure rather than sharp pain, and comfort varies by area and by individual.
03How long does semi-permanent makeup last?
Because the pigment sits in the upper skin, it fades gradually rather than staying fixed, and how long it lasts varies from person to person depending on skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure and the area treated. Periodic top-ups are used to maintain the result. Your practitioner gives you a realistic guide for your skin at consultation.
04Will it look natural?
The design is mapped to your features and the shade chosen to suit your colouring, and nothing is started until you approve it. The aim is a natural-looking enhancement rather than an obvious makeup look. Colour also looks darker at first and softens as the skin heals.
05What is the aftercare and is there downtime?
The treated area may look darker, feel slightly tender and flake a little as it heals over the following days. You are given aftercare guidance to follow, which typically includes keeping the area clean, avoiding picking, and protecting it from sun and water as advised. Your practitioner confirms the specifics for your treatment.
06What does semi-permanent makeup cost at Shookra?
Pricing depends on the area, the design and whether a top-up is included. Message us on WhatsApp and the team will share current pricing and help you arrange a consultation.
