What it is
Biostimulators are injectable collagen-stimulating agents — such as poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra) and calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse) — that prompt the skin to gradually rebuild its own collagen rather than adding volume directly.
Unlike conventional fillers, they do not add volume directly. Instead they stimulate your body’s own collagen production — gradually improving the skin’s underlying support structure, tone and firmness in areas prone to laxity or crepey skin. The materials used are poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra), calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse) and polycaprolactone (PCL), each of which acts as a scaffold that the skin responds to over time.
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid biostimulator that activates collagen production for a gradual improvement in skin quality and volume. Radiesse is a calcium-based biostimulator that provides an initial volumising effect alongside deeper collagen stimulation, supporting smoother, firmer skin. The choice between them depends on the area treated and the concern being addressed.
Because biostimulators work with your own physiology, the change is progressive. Each treatment is tailored to your individual concerns and anatomy, administered under doctor-led clinical protocols for precision and safety.

Who it's for
Biostimulators suit a range of concerns linked to collagen loss — crepey or thinning skin on the arms, abdomen or thighs, laxity across the buttocks and hips, volume loss around the knees and elbows, and ageing hands or décolletage.
Biostimulators are not right for everyone, and the most suitable product and treatment plan vary by area and skin. Your clinician confirms suitability and maps out a plan at consultation.
- Skin laxity & volume loss
- Crepey, thinning skin
- Lines & loss of definition
- Dull, lower-quality skin
Who it’s not for
A few situations mean it’s better to wait, or to choose a different treatment:
- Active infection or inflammation at the intended injection site.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Known hypersensitivity to the product or its components.
- A tendency to keloid or hypertrophic scarring.
This isn’t exhaustive, and none of it rules you out on its own — your clinician confirms suitability at consultation.

Physician note
On Biostimulators
What I want patients to understand about biostimulators is that they are a gradual treatment, not an instant one. We are asking the skin to do the work of rebuilding collagen, so the change reveals itself over weeks, and a planned course usually gives a more even, natural result than a single larger session. At consultation I assess skin quality and the area before deciding whether a biostimulator is the right choice at all — for some concerns a different approach serves the patient better.
